3D Printing, or additive manufacturing, has been acclaimed as a technology that will spark the next industrial revolution. The diverse array of technologies in this space is transforming R&D and production in nearly all industrial sectors, and greatly expanding hobbyists’ and DIY consumers’ ability to create objects and products. These technologies not only prompt a new use of existing materials, but introduce a new set of substances that could have consequences on human health and the environment. This technical symposium offers a glimpse into actions taken by those in the EHS and legal communities to understand and manage risks, liabilities, and the unanswered questions related to this intriguing, exciting, and ultimately transformative technology.
