Reed Smith’s Antitrust & Competition Practice is distinguished by its substantial scope and depth, its diverse base of knowledge and experience, its long track record, and its global capability. Our reach extends across the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
More than 112 countries around the world now have or are considering adopting antitrust or competition laws. Most follow the same core principles of (i) prohibiting anticompetitive agreements, (ii) prohibiting abusive conduct by market dominating companies or monopolists and (iii) reviewing mergers and proposed mergers for their impact on competition.
Enforcement authorities across the world are increasingly coordinating their activities, especially the United States, the EU and individual EU Member States, and China. It is therefore critical for businesses that their antitrust/competition counsel be able to operate on an international scale, particularly with respect to government investigations and merger clearances. Our team has that capability.
We have nearly 25 attorneys in our United States offices focused on antitrust matters, including nine attorneys with experience working for government enforcement agencies such as the Department of Justice (Antitrust Division), Federal Trade Commission, and Federal Communications Commission, and as state attorneys general.
Reed Smith’s Europe and Asia offices have nearly 20 attorneys with extensive experience in competition matters. These attorneys are based in London, Paris, Munich, Beijing, Hong Kong and Piraeus. Our experience includes working in-house for the UK’s Office of Fair Trading, and experience as in-house competition counsel for a major consumer-goods company.
