The rise of social media, mobile applications, blogs and online advertising has intensified consumers' involvement in the development of brand identity. Both businesses and consumers have a proprietary stake in the meaning of a company's brand, and consumers now have the tools to redefine a company's brand identity. This program surveys the impact of trademark practices, copyright rules and online ‘real estate' of domain names, hash-tags, mobile applications, twitter accounts and Facebook pages to advise both IP and non-IP lawyers on the changing landscape for managing business brand strategies in the online economy.
