UOSA - Successfully handled litigation involving numerous complex claims for our client, Blake Construction Company, arising out of the construction of a $200 million sewage treatment plant expansion. Litigation has spanned eight years, which has included four jury trials and three opinions from the Virginia Supreme Court. Judgments awarded client to date exceed $15 million.

Forrester Construction Co. v. Belle Haven CC, Inc. - Successfully defended our client, Belle Haven Country Club, in a multi-million dollar dispute with the general contractor, Forrester Construction.

Successfully represented a subcontractor in a major dispute involving construction of a lock and dam on the Ohio River near Smithland, Kentucky. Reed Smith obtained a favorable arbitration award against the general contractor and later successfully represented the client in related claims against the same general contractor in a federal jury trial in Kentucky. This case also involved a related case that was tried before the Court of Claims and resulted in an additional award to our client.

Obtained a judgment in favor of client with costs charged to the adversary in a case in which a $100 million-plus claim was asserted against it in connection with reused steel mill equipment that was refurbished and re-installed in a plant in Texas. The judgment was affirmed by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. In a related action, Reed Smith lawyers were able to recover nearly all of the legal fees and expert fees of the first case in a trial and judgment against the client's insurance carrier.

Tried a multi-million dollar international arbitration case involving alleged delays and liquidated damages with respect to industrial equipment installed in a plant in Pennsylvania, but manufactured in and shipped from Europe. The award in this arbitration resulted in a multi-million dollar award in favor of the client and a dismissal of the claims against it.
