Our litigation group includes a number of attorneys with strong backgrounds in criminal law, particularly alleged "white-collar" offenses. Recent years have witnessed an increase in the number of criminal investigations and prosecutions directed at corporations, as well as their officers and employees. Indictments in the areas of insider trading, securities fraud, government procurement fraud, Medicare and Medicaid fraud (anti-kickback statute), currency transactions, and environmental offenses have become common. In addition, the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act in the United States has increasingly been used by federal prosecutors against corporations and persons associated with them.
Defense of these complex criminal proceedings demands proficiency and skill. In recent years, our attorneys have represented a range of defendants, including a federal Cabinet secretary, high-level corporate officers, targets, and witnesses in investigations and prosecutions at both the federal and state levels. In addition, we have provided advice and support services for internal corporate investigations.
In carrying out these activities, our attorneys draw upon their earlier work as local, state or federal prosecutors and the firm's combined talents in specialized areas such as securities, banking, tax and environmental law. We bring to our representation of clients accused of criminal violations the same commitment to problem-solving and professionalism that we have in our other areas of practice.
