What can shipping teach other industries about competition risk and compliance in a global economy?

Reed Smith will be hosting the European Maritime Law Organisation's (EMLO) Twentieth Annual Conference, focusing on 'Global Shipping in an Uncertain World'.    

The event, which will include panel discussions, guest speakers and Q&A with industry experts, will cover:

  • Current issues for debate in competition law
  • The environmental challenges for ship owners
  • Procedural developments, third party actions and damages

Reed Smith partner, Marjorie Holmes, will be speaking at this conference.  Her panel is entitled "Using competition law to your commercial advantage: complaints, claims and damages" and topics will include:

  • Overview of the current EU landscape and the Damages Directive
  • The in-house lawyer’s perspective
  • Bringing successful claims - some practical tips and traps
  • Quantum, pass-on, class actions and other thorny issues
  • Issues arising out of commitments in the context of litigation

The conference will commence at 8.30am with registration and refreshments and conclude at 5.00pm.
