(October 25, 2012, Pittsburgh, PA) – Reed Smith, a leading international law firm, announces the addition of Beth M. Henke as a partner in the Labor & Employment practice in the firm’s Pittsburgh office.
“Beth is an outstanding addition to our preeminent Pittsburgh Labor & Employment practice and further expands our bench strength in meeting the employment litigation and counseling needs of major clients,” said Sara Begley, Reed Smith’s Labor & Employment Co-Practice Group Leader. “Beth’s broad substantive experience representing employers in complex employment and traditional labor matters will be a valuable addition to our Pittsburgh team.”
Ms. Henke has been involved in every aspect of the defense of employment-related actions in federal and state tribunals. She has also handled Sarbanes-Oxley litigation at all levels of the administrative and federal process, as well as defended class and collective actions involving wage and hour and discrimination issues. Her expertise extends to traditional labor and employment matters, including labor arbitrations and negotiations, union organizing campaigns, union avoidance campaigns, and National Labor Relations Board litigation.
“Reed Smith has an exceptional reputation for successfully defending some of the nation’s top employers in labor and employment matters,” said Ms. Henke. “I am delighted at this opportunity to broaden my practice platform and work with a group of talented and well-respected lawyers."
Reed Smith’s nearly 90-member firmwide complex employment litigation team earned recognition in September as a “Standout” practice worldwide in BTI Consulting Group’s BTI Litigation Outlook 2013: Changes, Trends and Opportunities for Law Firms. Also in September, partner Martha Hartle Munch was selected as Pittsburgh’s Labor and Employment “Lawyer of the Year.”
In addition to litigating, Ms. Henke has substantial experience counseling clients on all aspects of employment and labor law, including compliance with the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act and state wage and hour laws, employment policies, and employment agreements. She has conducted numerous comprehensive internal audits, policy reviews, and investigations, and she provides training on many areas of labor and employment law, including sexual harassment, diversity, employee leave, union avoidance, and litigation avoidance.
Ms. Henke was formerly a partner at Marcus & Shapira LLP, Pittsburgh, where she had practiced since 2008. Prior to that, she was an attorney at Morgan Lewis & Bockius LLP for a decade.
A 1999 graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, Ms. Henke has been listed in Who’s Who in American Law since 2007. She was selected a Pennsylvania Super Lawyer “Rising Star” in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2012.
