(February 7, 2013, Chicago, IL) – Reed Smith LLP today announced Denise Obrochta has joined the firm as counsel in the firm’s State Tax Practice in its Chicago office.
Ms. Obrochta was formerly the Director of State and Local Tax at Navistar, Inc., where she oversaw all activities involving the company’s state income and franchise taxes, sales and use taxes and property taxes, as well as federal excise tax and unclaimed property, including providing litigation, audit defense, compliance, tax accounting support, advising the business segments on the state tax impact of operational activities and transactions, and process improvements. Headquartered in Lisle, IL, Navistar is a leading global manufacturer of commercial trucks, buses, RVs, defense vehicles and engines.

Prior to joining Navistar, Ms. Obrochta was the sole state income and franchise tax attorney for BP America, Inc., for five years. Before joining BP, she spent four years at both PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP and Deloitte Tax LLP, where her responsibilities included research and development of tax planning strategies and audit defense, written legislative analyses, development of oil and gas-focused state tax planning strategies and general tax research.
