(June 4, 2012, Washington, D.C.) – Reed Smith LLP, a leading international law firm, today announced the addition of Terence Healy as a partner in its Global Regulatory Enforcement Group (GRE) in the firm's Washington, D.C. office. Mr. Healy was formerly Senior Assistant Chief Litigation Counsel at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in Washington, D.C.

"Terence brings high-end complex litigation experience and securities enforcement capabilities to complement areas where the firm already excels," said Jim Gallatin, head of Reed Smith’s firmwide Global Regulatory Enforcement Group.

Mr. Healy was one of the top litigators in the SEC’s Division of Enforcement, where he handled some of the agency’s toughest cases. During his time at the Commission, he was lead counsel in several high-profile securities fraud cases, including a recent three-month trial against the former CEO and CAO, of a large public company. At the SEC, Mr. Healy brought a number of cases related to accounting fraud, revenue recognition, options backdating, insider trading, FCPA, and structured products. His experience included directing the trial teams in the agency’s insider trading case against Dallas Maverick’s owner Mark Cuban and the SEC’s first litigated case against individuals under the FCPA.

Prior to joining the SEC, Mr. Healy spent nine years as a Trial Attorney for the Department of Justice (DOJ) where he defended the United States in complex disputes in trial and appellate courts throughout the country. He was lead counsel for the government in several complex cases tried to verdict, including numerous consolidated multidistrict actions. In one matter, he argued and won a certified appeal to a state Supreme Court on choice of law, leading to the dismissal of a $500 million claim against the United States government.

Mr. Healy graduated from the University of North Carolina with a B.A. in political science in 1988 and received his law degree in 1992 from the American University, Washington College of Law. After completing a clerkship following graduation, he worked for four years as a litigation associate for a national law firm.

"Increasingly clients face regulatory and compliance challenges across international borders, "said Mr. Healy. "I was looking for a firm with a truly global presence and a well-developed platform to support businesses in Asia, Middle East, Europe and the Americas. Nowhere did I find a more talented group of lawyers, with as broad a background in regulatory and compliance issues than at Reed Smith."

"We are pleased to add another former top-level federal litigator to our ranks," said A. Scott Bolden, Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Washington, D.C., office. "Terence’s experience at the SEC and DOJ give him a perspective on global regulatory issues that will be very valuable for a wide range of Reed Smith clients, who look to us for assistance with securities-related issues, FCPA, internal investigations, and complex litigation matters. We are pleased to have him aboard."
