(August 26, 2013) – Reed Smith LLP, a leading international law firm, earned three high-level rankings in the second annual issue of Life Science Guide. Eleven lawyers in the firm were selected by the publication as “Life Science Stars,” eight of whom were also recognized in the 2012 inaugural issue of the guide.

Life Science Guide is a publication of Legal Media Group (LMG), a part of Euromoney Institutional Investor, PLC.

“The Life Science Health Industry Group is once again honored to be recognized by LMG in three critical practice areas,” said Carol C. Loepere, chair of Reed Smith’s Life Sciences Health Industry (LSHI) Group. “The individual recognition of eleven of our partners speaks to the depth and breadth of the firm’s practice, and emphasizes our commitment to providing our clients with the highest level of service in a complex and ever-changing industry.”

Reed Smith earned the rating of “Highly Recommended” in the pricing and reimbursement section within the “regulatory” category, as well as in the products liability section within the “non-IP litigation and enforcement” category.

The firm was noted for “exceptional capabilities” in regards to pricing and reimbursement work, while one peer noted that “[Reed Smith] has one of the most complete products teams in the nation.” Reed Smith was also “Recommended” in the licensing and collaboration section as part of the “finance and transactional” category.

Washington, D.C. partners Gordon Schatz and Joseph W. Metro are named again as “Stars” in the regulatory category, as was LSHI Group Chair Carol Loepere, also a partner in Washington, D.C.

Ranked as “Stars” for the first time this year in the non-IP litigation and enforcement category are Philadelphia partners Barbara Binis and Stephen McConnell. Ranked for the second year in the non-IP litigation and enforcement category are Reed Smith’s Los Angeles partners Michael K. Brown, Mildred Segura and David Stanley; Philadelphia partner Michael T. Scott, and Washington, D.C. partner Eric Dubelier. Princeton partner Diane M. Frenier was again named a “Star” in the finance and transactional category, where a colleague noted “there are few attorneys who can negotiate deals the way she can.”

Reed Smith’s interdisciplinary LSHI Group comprises more than 250 professionals across numerous practice areas working with clients who help save patients’ lives and preserve their health, whether through biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, life sciences or delivering health care. From product development and management requirements to regulatory demand and litigation risks, Reed Smith’s LSHI Group assists clients in every aspect of their businesses. The group represents health care providers, such as hospitals and health systems, long-term care facilities, hospices, home health and rehabilitation providers, physicians, and others, as well as many of the largest global pharmaceutical manufacturers and global medical device manufacturers.

LMG’s Life Science Guide rankings were based on nearly 1000 interviews and surveys completed with active life science partners, as well as interviews with law firms’ clients, and using public information. The 2013 Life Science Guide is available online.
