NEW YORK, June 10, 2016 — Reed Smith has been named a best practice company in the category for retention of Asian Pacific American (APA) and Asian employees, as part of the 2016 Asian Pacific American Employer Awards. Presented by Asia Society, the awards honor companies at the forefront of promoting APA employees and global diversity. The award was presented at the 8th Diversity Leadership Forum at the Asia Society in New York June 9.

“We are immensely honored to have been recognized by Asia Society,” said Sandy Thomas, Reed Smith’s Global Managing Partner. “Diversity is core to our firm and we are deeply committed to ensuring that we continue to attract and develop diverse attorneys. We’re very proud of what we've accomplished with regard to diversity, but we know we still have a long way to go. We look forward to continuing to work with Asia Society on initiatives that promote diversity not only in the legal profession – but across all businesses as well.”

Commenting on the award, David Whitelaw Reid, Executive Director for Global Talent Initiatives at Asia Society, said, “Asian Pacific Americans have contributed immensely to the success of U.S. businesses, and we salute Reed Smith for their commitment to a diverse workforce. Recognizing and developing these employees is not only the right thing to do, but it is also a prerequisite for attracting and retaining top talent.”

The awards are based on the results of the Asian Pacific Americans Corporate Survey, a national benchmark study about the growth, development and advancement of APA employees in Fortune 500 companies. Winners were selected based on a statistical analysis of internal employee surveys distributed to APAs.
