Los Angeles-based Reed Smith partner Amber Finch has been appointed the new President of the Black Women Lawyers Association of Los Angeles (BWL). Founded in 1975 to address the needs and concerns of African-American women in the legal profession, BWL is a non-profit corporation dedicated to charitable, educational, and community-based services.

“As we enter a new year, BWL will continue to expand its legacy, cultivating our dedication and commitment to our core values,” explained Finch, who says that BWL’s theme for the upcoming bar year will be “Leading by Example in Mentorship, Service, and Advocacy.”

“This theme reflects our commitment to promoting and supporting women of color in the legal profession, and grooming the next generation of leaders in our offices, our industry, and our world,” said Finch.

Finch, a graduate of Stanford University and University of Southern California Law School, was conferred as President for the 2016-2017 term at BWL’s 41st Annual Installation and Awards Dinner held earlier this month. Previously, she served as BWL’s President-Elect for the 2015-2016 term.

A leading partner in Reed Smith’s global Insurance Recovery Group, Finch also serves as the Los Angeles Diversity & Inclusion Partner for the firm’s global Diversity Committee. Finch was recently named one of the year’s “Top 50 Women Lawyers in California” by the National Diversity Council.
