Global law firm Reed Smith has advised on the sale of Videotel Group to KVH Industries Inc. for $48.9 million. Videotel is a market-leading producer of high-quality training films and e-learning services for the commercial maritime industry. US-based KVH is a leading manufacturer of solutions that provide high-speed internet, television and voice services via satellite to users at sea, on land and in the air.

The deal will allow KVH to extend its maritime broadband service to include delivering premium training services and content to vessels for the first time.

Reed Smith partner and head of the firm’s EME Corporate Group James Wilkinson led the team which included: associates Alexandra Nelson and Fiona McFarlane, and trainee Sara Hughes in corporate; associate James Bromley in tax; and partner Mark O’Neil and associate Christian Ayerst in shipping (all London). The Hong Kong team was led by partner Mark Cornell and included associate Benjamin Lau and trainee Alexander Esmail in corporate.
