Global law firm Reed Smith is pleased to announce the appointment of Andrew Meads to its Energy and Natural Resources Group. Andrew will be based in London and joins from Hill Dickinson on 7 October 2014.

Ranked as a Leading Individual for physical commodities, Andrew represents clients across the sector and is particularly well known for his work with leading agriculture, energy and metals trading companies. He provides advisory support in relation to sale and purchase and shipping contracts, trade finance structures and letters of credit. He also handles trading and shipping disputes in arbitration and in the High Court.

Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources Group now has over 120 lawyers worldwide, with particular depth in Houston, Washington D.C., Chicago, London, Singapore and Hong Kong. Its lawyers represent many of the world’s leading producers, traders (be they trading houses or banks), lenders and those involved in the related infrastructure.

Kyri Evagora, partner and chair of Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources Group, commented:

“Andrew’s strong reputation in the market further strengthens our position as a leader in energy and commodities work.”

Diane Galloway, partner in Reed Smith’s Energy and Natural Resources Group, commented:

“Andrew joins us at a time of flux in the energy and natural resources market: Chinese companies are buying in the agri sector, economic sanctions are affecting trade in the Ukraine and Russia and banks are divesting themselves of some of their commodity portfolios. Andrew is a tremendous addition to our group of specialised lawyers focusing on this area.”

Andrew is the fourth market leader to join the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group in 2014. In London, over the last three years the group has added, Chris Borg (Dentons), Brett Hillis (Dentons), Jonathan Solomon (Dentons), Claude Brown (Clifford Chance), Peter Zaman (Clifford Chance), Rashpaul Bahia (McDermott Will & Emery) and, most recently, Prajakt Samant (McDermott Will & Emery). Elsewhere it opened in Singapore and in Houston and, in the last few months, was recently joined by regulatory enforcement defence and transactional partner, Michael Yuffee, in Washington D.C. (Michael was formerly the head of energy at Fried Frank) and Gary Johnson (a leading upstream oil & gas transactional partner, formerly corporate practice group leader at Burleson LLP) in Houston.

Andrew commented:

"I am very pleased to be joining Reed Smith's excellent Energy and Natural Resources Group. I believe that the firm offers unrivalled strength and reach in the commodities market and I am looking forward to playing my part in its continued development and to serving the needs of the firm's clients globally."
