Global law firm Reed Smith today announced the launch of its competition practice in Paris with the appointment of Michel Debroux to its partnership. Michel joins the firm from Hogan Lovells in Paris.

Michel’s practice focuses on competition, antitrust and distribution; and his competition experience is a mixture of contentious and non-contentious work. He advises clients (large French and international groups) on merger review, distribution, state aid and competition litigation, including cartel cases, dominant-position abuse and compliance. He has particular expertise in the energy and telecommunications industries.

Michel’s arrival follows that of partner Alexandre Tron, who joined in December 2012 with Olivier Borenstejn (senior associate) to expand the firm’s banking and finance offering in Paris.

Benoit Charot, Reed Smith Office Managing Partner in Paris commented:
“Michel’s appointment continues our growth plan for Paris as we work to build our transactional capability, and follows the arrival of Alexandre Tron at the end of last year. With our new expanded team, we are even better placed to present clients with a global transactional offering including not only advice on acquisitions and sales but also competition, tax, employment, IP and finance.”

James Wilkinson, Head of Reed Smith’s Europe & Middle East Corporate Group commented:
“Our clients are increasingly seeking antitrust and competition advice in respect of their cross-border activities, and Michel’s expertise brings new capability to our corporate team in Paris. We already have a strong competition practice in London, led by Edward Miller and Marjorie Holmes.

“Michel’s arrival will strengthen our European antitrust offering and our position to win EU competition work from French-based, as well as international organisations. With our existing employment, tax, IP, and real estate capability and our new finance team, this competition capability provides us with full-service support for our growing corporate team in Paris.”

Michel Debroux added:
“The combination of Reed Smith’s dynamic approach, given its steady growth in Paris over recent years, and the quality of its international platform left me in no doubt. I made up my mind to accept the challenge that I was presented with; to create and develop Reed Smith’s competition practice in Paris.”
