PITTSBURGH – April 29, 2016 – Reed Smith is pleased to announce that Pittsburgh- and Washington, D.C.-based partner Daniel I. Booker will receive a 2016 “Lifetime Achievement Award” from The Legal Intelligencer, America's oldest daily legal newspaper, which celebrates its 173rd anniversary this year. The Legal selected individuals who have helped shape the law in Pennsylvania, whether through their work on the bench, assisting those in need of legal services, building a firm, or any other means.
A highly regarded trial lawyer, business counselor, and 45-year legal veteran, Booker has especially made his mark in antitrust and trade regulation law, for which he has received many honors and accolades. He has also served as chair of numerous professional programs on antitrust issues, on which he has written and spoken extensively.
Booker’s multifaceted practice includes counseling and litigation in mergers, acquisitions, price fixing, distributor relations, advertising, labor/antitrust, consumer banking, monopolization, and franchising, as well as in friendly and hostile takeovers. He has represented both plaintiffs and defendants in major civil antitrust litigations; defendants in criminal antitrust trials; targets of federal grand jury investigations; and distributors and manufacturers in dealer-termination cases.
Booker served as Reed Smith’s managing partner from 1991 until 2001. During that decade of leadership, he successfully replaced the firm’s previous organic expansion model with the strategic model that is now characterized within the profession as “smart growth.”

He has also been chairman of the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, its Academy of Musical Theatre and its Cabaret Theatre; president of Penn’s Southwest Association; and chairman of the Pittsburgh Regional Alliance and of the Regional Air Service Partnership, among numerous other pro bono and community commitments.
