(Palo Alto - November 18, 2014) -- George A. Willman, a leading technology licensing and transactions partner in Reed Smith’s Silicon Valley office, has been awarded the Raymond E. Miles Alumni Service Award from the University of California, Berkeley Haas School of Business.

The Raymond E. Miles Alumni Service Award is given annually to an alumni volunteer who demonstrates profound involvement in the Haas Alumni Network community, which was formed under the guidance of Professor Emeritus and Former Dean, Raymond Miles.

George, who received his MBA from Haas in 1993, has been working closely with the school to help develop University start-ups and launch the business leaders of tomorrow. George is Co-President, Chairman of the Board, and Founder of the Berkeley Angel Network, an angel investor community among the alumni and faculty of UC Berkeley. He also serves as a mentor at UC Berkeley’s Lester Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation.

Along with George, Stuart Bernstein, Managing Director and Partner of Goldman, Sachs & Co., was also honored at this year’s Haas School of Business Awards, which were conferred at the Haas Gala 2014 on Friday, November 14. Bernstein received the Business Leader of the Year Award for his efforts as Global Head of Goldman’s Clean Technology and Renewables, and Venture Capital Coverage groups.

Pioneering American business executive Ralph Bahna was also honored posthumously this year with the “Leading through Innovation Award: A Tribute to Ralph Bahna (1942-2014).”

A member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), George knows his tech from his years of experience in the industry. Before he got his J.D., George worked as a software and telecommunications engineer for ROLM, IBM, and Siemens in Silicon Valley and Munich.
