Tamara Box and Carolyn Pepper, partners at global law firm Reed Smith, have been named finalists in the Champion category of the WeAreTheCity Rising Star Awards 2016. The award recognises the efforts of senior leaders who actively support and encourage a more diverse talent pipeline.

The legal category is named after late Reed Smith partner Lynne Freeman in memory of her commitment to gender-balance efforts at the firm and across the City. The awards were entered by 850 individuals and judged by a panel of 21 independent judges. Over 28,000 public votes were received for the 200 shortlisted nominees from across 110 countries.

Chair of the Financial Industry Group, head of Structured Finance, Executive Committee member and founding member of the 30% Club Steering Committee, Tamara Box, is listed for her knowledge and passion for establishing gender parity in corporations and professional organisations. In order to achieve gender balance, she focuses strongly on the pipeline of talent that takes rising stars up the leadership chain.

Entertainment & Media Group litigation partner, Executive Committee member and chair of the firm’s Disability Task Force, Carolyn Pepper, is listed for her commitment to increasing diversity in the legal profession. She has mentored two young women with disabilities seeking to enter the profession, regularly speaks at the firm’s Insight Days, which enable young people to learn more about working in law, and has offered work experience and shadowing to many students over the years.
