Associates are eligible for consideration for promotion to non-equity partner after a minimum of seven years of practice and after at least two years of experience with Reed Smith. Factors for consideration include quality of work and productivity, revenue generation, client relationships, management ability, overall character and personality, Reed Smith and community citizenship. Partnership elections occur once a year in the fall, with a January 1 effective date for newly-promoted partners.
After a three-year period as non-equity partner, consideration may be given for equity partnership status. This three-year period will not apply to senior lawyers brought in as counsel or non-equity partners. For these lawyers, the timing of eligibility for equity partner consideration is determined by the Executive Committee on a case-by-case basis.
