Dale is the head of Reed Smith’s Investment Funds Group in Europe and the Middle East. He has over 16 years’ experience of advising funds, their managers and their investors, both in-house with JP Morgan and in private practice in London and New York.
Dale advises fund managers, financial institutions and entrepreneurs in the establishment and ongoing operations of all classes of alternate investment funds, including hedge funds, private equity funds, real estate funds, credit funds and bespoke products. He also advises on joint ventures, seeding deals, the acquisition and disposal of fund managers and related investment management and regulatory issues. Dale regularly advises major institutional, high-net-worth and sovereign investors on their investments into alternative investment funds and managed accounts.
Most recently, Dale had been involved in advising clients on preparations for AIFMD, acting on the acquisition of a UK fund manager, establishing a number of commodities hedge funds, establishing a joint venture shipping fund and negotiating large private equity and infrastructure managed accounts. Dale is noted for his commercial and pragmatic approach.
Dale is a recognised authority and commentator on hedge funds and is the author of “Hedge Funds” (Butterworths Lexis Nexis), published in November 2008. He is currently writing the second edition.
Dale is co-chair of Reed Smith’s Sovereign Wealth Funds Group and has considerable experience of advising Sovereign Wealth Funds on investment and governance issues. He is the author of the Sovereign Wealth Funds chapter of “Investment Management – Law and Practice” (Oxford University Press), Spangler, published in 2010.
