Reed Smith Attorneys Betty Graumlich and Stacy Haney cordially invite you to attend the "2009 Reed Smith Employment Law Update," an informative and educational session that will focus on two topics essential to your future business decisions.

Session 1 - 2009 Amendments to the FMLA Regulations

The first hour will focus on the new FMLA Regulations recently promulgated by the Department of Labor and made effective on January 16, 2009, including:

• new Military Family Leave provisions
• new provisions regarding light duty work
• clarification regarding settlement of FMLA claims without formal court or Department of Labor approval
• changes to the definition of a "serious health condition"
• modification of the substitution of paid leave provisions
• changes to the employer notice obligations

This session will help employers understand the extensive and significant changes to the FMLA regulations.

Session 2 - The Americans with Disabilities Act Amendments of 2008

This session will provide a refresher on the Americans with Disabilities Act and a discussion of the recent far-ranging amendments to the ADA, including:

• the new requirement that the determination of whether an impairment substantially limits a major life activity be made without regard to the ameliorative effects of mitigating measures
• the expansion of the definition of "major life activity" to include previously unrecognized activities such as reading, bending, and communication, and major bodily functions
• the directive that the EEOC issue new regulation defining the term "substantially limits"
• the changes to the "regarded as" prong of the definition of disability

This session is a must for any employer with at least 15 employees.
