Jim is an experienced regulatory lawyer, concentrating in public utility, energy and renewable energy law and regulation at the state level. Jim is counsel in Reed Smith’s Princeton, New Jersey office and a member of the firm’s Energy and Natural Resources Group.

Jim has extensive experience dealing with a broad range of state government agencies. His past work as a mediator makes him an effective problem solver and he is recognized for his ability to find creative solutions to meet client’s needs while making square corners.

A veteran public utility attorney, Jim has represented every type of stakeholder group in the state public utility arena, including: utilities, generators, trade groups, large energy customers, rate counsel and the state public utility regulatory agency. During the past 20 years he has assisted clients in a broad range of regulatory matters.

Jim is past Chair of the State Bar’s Public Utility Law Section, liaison to its Renewable Energy Committee and served as a member of the Governor’s Energy Policy Transition Team. He was listed in Best Lawyers in America by Woodward and White and as a “Super Lawyer” by New Jersey Magazine for public utility law in 2005-2006.
