John is Senior Director, Asia Pacific and a member of the Corporate and Securities Group. He has extensive experience working on mergers, acquisitions, private placements and public offerings of securities, and other sophisticated business transactions in the United States and elsewhere. He has served as lead corporate counsel to clients in a wide spectrum of industries ranging from investment banking, private equity, renewable energy, electronics, videogames, furniture, automotive parts, to information technology and entertainment.
John's current focus is on Chinese outbound investments. He represented China Investment Corporation (CIC), the $500 billion Chinese sovereign wealth fund, in a $1.2 billion investment in a Hong Kong publicly traded company. He regularly counsels foreign investors on dealing with U.S. regulatory agencies, including the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS).
In addition to his regular corporate practice, John, skilled in cross-cultural negotiations, has also successfully served as the lead settlement counsel in a number of high-profile, high-stakes international litigation matters.
A graduate of China's most prestigious school, he is among the best known Chinese-speaking lawyers in the United States. He was featured in the front-page headline story in the March 1994 issue of California Bar Journal and another front-page headline story in the May 1, 2006 issue of the Los Angeles Daily Journal. He has been interviewed or quoted on various legal matters by major U.S. and Chinese news organizations, including The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, International Herald Tribune, Chicago Tribune, The Deal, Reuters, Bloomberg, The People's Daily, China Daily, and South China Morning Post.
John is highly recognized authority on overseas investments by Chinese companies and writes a column for Caixin, a major financial publication in China.
