John has a broad range of experience in defending multi-national companies in complex litigations, including a variety of commercial, product liability, financial services, false and misleading advertising and other consumer class actions where he has served as national, regional and/or local counsel.
John advises multi-national corporations in a variety of industries on developing and executing litigation and strategic resolution options in some of the largest most complex mass and toxic tort actions, class actions and complex commercial litigations in the federal and state courts. His expertise ranges from trials and arbitrations to mediations and settlements, and covers all grounds in between. His clients include some of the largest manufacturers of automobiles, pharmaceuticals, medical devices, building materials, tires, sporting goods and apparel as well as retailers, railroads, hedge funds, insurance companies, private equity firms, banks and other financial services institutions. He has been the lead negotiator in a substantial number of settlements of class actions and mass actions including toxic and mass torts and The American Lawyer has recognized his skills in the management and resolution of "bet the company" litigation. He has also been appointed by the federal and state courts as a Special Master, Special Settlement Master and Special Arbitration Master as well as the Lead Defense Settlement Liaison Counsel in MDL proceedings as well as other Federal and State Court mass actions. His overall service to his clients has been recognized by his nomination to the prestigious BTI Client Service All Star Team for multiple years. John is a frequent speaker in the United States and Canada on topics related to class and mass actions. He is a former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney and worked as an in-house attorney at Bristol-Myers Squibb Company.
