Laura is a member of the Insurance Coverage Group in Reed Smith's Chicago office. She focuses her practice on representing corporate policyholders in insurance coverage litigation involving commercial general liability, directors & officers, errors & omissions, employment practices liability, commercial crime, credit risk, cyber, first party property and business interruption and pollution liability policies. Laura provides soup-to-nuts services in the insurance context, including counseling during the negotiation and placement of insurance policies, advising as claims are tendered to the insurers, as well as resolving coverage disputes through negotiation, litigation, or alternative dispute resolution, such as mediation or arbitration.
Because of the breadth and depth of her insurance counseling and litigation experience, Laura is well-suited to advise on insurance issues during corporate transactions. She works with due diligence teams to understand and limit risks and liabilities regarding pre- and post-transaction claims, occurrences and events. She also analyzes the sufficiency of insurance for those risks and liabilities, including the scope of coverage and available limits. Laura drafts and negotiates terms relating to insurance and indemnification in transaction agreements and related documents, as well as the terms of any new insurance policies or endorsements to current policies, in order to provide the broadest possible coverage to her clients. In 2014, Laura became co-chair of the Corporate and Transactional Subgroup of the Reed Smith Insurance Recovery Group.
Her representations have encompassed clients ranging in size from "Fortune 50" corporations to family-owned businesses. She is familiar with a wide spectrum of manufacturing and service industry sectors, including retail, energy, financial institutions, media and food manufacturing.
Laura writes an update each year for the treatise Insurance Coverage Disputes, published by Law Journal Press.
