Mike is a member of the Financial Industry Group, practicing in the area of Commercial Restructuring & Bankruptcy. Mike's practice focuses on bankruptcy matters and complex commercial disputes. He has had numerous trials as well as extensive appellate court experience in both the federal and state courts.
Mike's recent clients include Wells Fargo Bank, Wachovia Bank, Morgan Stanley & Co., IndyMac Bank, Siemens Financial, Qwest Corp., Waste Management and a number of commercial landlords and developers.
Mike frequently represents creditors and indenture trustees in significant bankruptcy cases and in commercial litigation. Recently his bankruptcy work involves the municipal finance, real estate development, corporate trust, oil and gas, construction, electronics and agriculture industries.
He represents an indenture trustee, which is a major creditor in the largest municipal bankruptcy case in 20 years, a bank lender with hundreds of millions of dollars of real estate secured loans with owner-developers in Chapter 11 bankruptcies, and several secured lenders in enforcing their liens. Recently he represented the unsecured creditors' committees in the bankruptcy cases of a large software company and a construction company. In the last few years Mike also represented major creditors and counter-parties to executory contracts in bankruptcy cases or insolvency proceedings involving venture start-ups, a large construction company, a major electronic equipment manufacturer, a large telecommunications and fibre optic company, a metals refiner, a large manufacturing company, a major paper manufacturer, two sizable printing and fulfilment companies and one of the country's largest fruit and vegetable packers. He also represents some of California's largest landlords in the bankruptcy cases of significant commercial and retail chain tenants. Mike regularly represents receivers, trustees and assignees for the benefit of creditors, and both debtors and creditors in loan workout contexts.
Representative Matters
Represented indenture trustee of public bond debt in enforcement of secured debt on a large tract of undeveloped land and then in Chapter 11 bankruptcy of owner-developer.
Represented indenture trustee of private bond debt in enforcement of personal property secured claim against electronics manufacturing company through Section 363 sale in Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Represented indenture trustee of multiple issues of publically held municipal bonds in Chapter 9 bankruptcy of large California city.
Represented bank lender group and individual lenders in enforcement of $100+ million multi-parcel real estate secured loans in Chapter 11 bankruptcies of owner-developers.
Represented bank lenders as creditors of mortgage brokers affected by the subprime mortgage market collapse.

Interests
When he can get a few minutes away from his busy practice Mike continues to enjoy amateur astronomy, literature of all sorts, classical music, cats, and the study of language. He is also a serious student of Northern California history and geography and the creator of several illustrated, popular interest presentations on such diverse subjects such as The Scale of the Universe, The California Gold Rush, California Geology, The Evolution of Life From Amoebas to Dinosaurs, and Developments in Astronomy.
