Mike's practice focuses on corporate and commercial law transactions, mergers and acquisitions, dispute resolution, internal investigations (e.g, anti-bribery, FCPA and other accounting or bookkeeping irregularities), and international trade issues. Mike has significant experience in the media and telecommunications sectors and he regularly advises clients in these industries on investment projects, ongoing regulatory compliance, market access issues, and intellectual property licensing arrangements. His practice also includes representation of PRC companies seeking investment or opportunities to expand overseas.
Mike represents clients in a wide array of industries, including software development, equipment manufacturing, print and online publishing, Internet services, advertising, cable TV, telecommunications, real estate development, film production, financial services, biotechnology, and consumer products. Mike draws on his experience as a lawyer and his background in the business sector, in both China and the U.S., to offer practical and effective advice to his foreign clients seeking to grow their business in China, and to PRC clients seeking to expand their opportunities overseas.
Previously, Mike co-directed a Chinese legal education reform project for the Ford Foundation, and built a China legal information database company which was eventually sold to a leading international publisher. He also has taught at Renmin University Law School and Tsinghua University Law School. Mike is fluent in Mandarin Chinese and English and regularly conducts negotiations and reviews documents in both languages.
