Practice Overview

Reed Smith offers an innovative, interdisciplinary approach to estate planning.  Through this approach, Reed Smith is able to address our clients’ business and personal needs in a way that minimizes future income, estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer taxes, in order to maximize the benefits to an entire family while still serving the individual needs of family members.  Our practice often focuses on resolving family conflicts that arise in connection with estate planning.  We strive to facilitate constructive dialogue between the parties, in an effort to avoid costly, painful litigation and preserve the family relationship.  Several partners in the Trust and Estates Group is also a trained mediator who acts as the neutral third party in the formal mediation process.  All of the Group’s attorneys facilitate family settlement agreements in the less formal estate and trust context.
