PITTSBURGH (April 7, 2016) – Reed Smith LLP today announced the appointment of Ericson P. Kimbel as partner in the firm’s global Energy & Natural Resources Industry Group (ENR), and Construction & Engineering team. Kimbel has practiced in construction law almost exclusively for more than 16 years, representing many of the world’s largest companies and multinational groups specializing in the nuclear, oil and gas, renewable energy, and pipeline industries.

“Eric significantly strengthens our existing construction litigation capabilities and broadens our client offering in the energy sector, particularly in the nuclear industry, where Eric’s skill set and experience is unique,” said Kyri Evagora, chair of the firm's Energy & Natural Resources Group.

Considered a “go-to” litigator for the construction industry, Kimbel has handled numerous multimillion-dollar matters related to the construction of nuclear fuel conversion facilities. He also advises owners, contractors, subcontractors, design-builders, and construction managers in all phases of both public and private construction projects on commercial, federal contracting, institutional, highway, nuclear energy, renewable energy, pipeline, and oil & gas projects.

“Eric has a sterling reputation among colleagues and clients alike, many of whom are significant players in the construction, pipeline and energy markets,” said George Stewart, office managing partner of Reed Smith’s Pittsburgh office. “He is certainly a welcome addition to our strong and growing energy construction and engineering team.”

Kimbel was previously a partner at Burleson LLP in Pittsburgh, which dissolved at the end of 2015. Kimbel has since provided service to his clients through Reed Smith, where he has served as counsel pending his appointment as partner.

Kimbel received his J.D. from the University of Pittsburgh and his Bachelor’s degree, cum laude, from Methodist University. He also received a Master’s degree in Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh’s Graduate School of Public and International Affairs. An active member of several professional associations who speaks and writes frequently on numerous issues related to the construction industry, Kimbel was recently honored by the International Law Office with its 2016 Client Choice Award.

Reed Smith’s global, multidisciplinary ENR Group combines regulatory, transactional and litigation attorneys located in the United States, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, and represents clients engaged in the extraction, production, distribution or financing of energy and natural resources services across the world.
