Global law firm Reed Smith has today announced the appointment of U.S. securities partner Daniel Winterfeldt as a partner in the firm’s Financial Industry Group, based in London. Daniel’s arrival reflects Reed Smith’s ambition to continue strengthening its international capital markets practice. Daniel will join Reed Smith with a legal team (including three senior associates) from CMS Cameron McKenna, where he led the International Capital Markets Group, including the U.S. securities practice, and served as the firm’s diversity and inclusion partner.

Daniel is the founder and co-chair of the Forum for U.S. Securities Lawyers in London. His practice focuses on representing U.S., UK, European and Asian investment banks and corporate issuers in a wide range of securities transactions, including Rule 144A and Regulation S equity and debt offerings, exchange offers and initial public offerings.

Recently ranked in The Economist’s ‘Top 50 Global Diversity Professionals in Industry’ list, The Independent’s ‘Top 100 most influential LGBT individuals in Britain’ and the Daily Telegraph’s ‘Top 50 LGBT Executives’ list, he was also named ‘Inspirational Leader in the Legal Sector’ by The Telegraph and ‘Legal Innovator of the Year’ by the FT Innovative Lawyer Awards in 2012.

Daniel is the founder and co-chair of the InterLaw Diversity Forum, the leading LGBT inclusion legal network in the UK, and led CMS’s award-winning diversity and inclusion programme. Daniel will continue to support CMS on their diversity and inclusion strategy and programme.

Commenting on the appointment, Reed Smith’s global chair of the firm’s Financial Industry Group, Tamara Box, said:

“As a leading U.S. securities lawyer in London, Daniel will be a great addition to our international debt and equity capital markets practices in London and a tremendous complement to our securities practices in the United States and Asia. Daniel will work closely with Reed Smith’s U.S.-based U.S. securities team, including Danielle Carbone, who joined the firm from Shearman & Sterling in December last year. Daniel’s dynamism and entrepreneurial approach make him an excellent fit for us.”

Andrew Jenkinson, London managing partner, added:

“Daniel’s arrival is another example of our determination to pursue our strategy of growth in our key sectors and markets, including London and New York.”

Sakil Suleman, partner and head of the firm’s UK Diversity Committee, commented:

“Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of our culture at Reed Smith. Daniel is a passionate and dedicated speaker and campaigner on these issues and we are delighted to welcome his expertise and his award-winning work through the InterLaw Diversity Forum to Reed Smith.”
