LONDON – Two Reed Smith lawyers have been included on the prestigious 2020 OUTstanding LGBT+ Role Model Lists. The lists, prepared by diversity and inclusion organization INvolve, highlight role models for others to follow when it comes to being out and proud at work, driving positive change in the office, or supporting LGBT+ colleagues.

Reed Smith’s honorees are:

  • Omar Alaniz (Partner, Houston, Financial Industry Group) - OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Executives List
  • Jonathan Andrews (Associate, London, Entertainment and Media Industry Group) - OUTstanding 100 LGBT+ Future Leaders’ List

The LGBT+ Executives category recognizes successful senior LGBT+ executives working one to three levels from the chief executive, who are helping to make the workplace a more welcoming place. LGBT+ Future Leaders recognizes role models who work at all levels of an organization and make significant contributions to LGBT+ inclusion within their company.

All of the 2020 Role Models were nominated by peers and colleagues or put themselves forward for consideration. Every Role Model submitted an application outlining the work they have done for LGBT+ inclusion in business. Submissions were then reviewed by OUTstanding’s judging panel, consisting of: Lord Browne, Executive Chairman, L1 Energy; Ashok Vaswani, Global Consumer and Payments Head, Barclays; Harriet Green, Former Chairman & CEO IBM Asia Pacific; Dawn Airey, Independent Director, Grosvenor Estates GBI; Jim Fitterling, CEO of Dow Inc; Suki Sandhu OBE, Founder & CEO, INvolve & Audeliss; Lianna Brinded, Head of Yahoo Finance UK. Each nominee was scored on their impact on LGBT+ inclusion inside and outside the workplace, their business achievements, and the seniority and influence of their role.

“As a firm committed to championing LGBT+ equality, equity and inclusion, we are honored to have among our ranks people who are dedicated to empowering all of our people to be their authentic selves,” said John Iino, global chair, Diversity & Inclusion. “Congratulations to Omar and Jonathan for being recognized for their leadership and their dedication towards ensuring that our firm and our profession is welcoming, empowering and inclusive to members of the LGBT+ community.”
