Binoy joined Reed Smith’s Singapore office in April 2014.
Binoy is an Extra Master Mariner with substantial seagoing and onshore maritime and legal claims handling experience. As a result of his long service as an Extra Master for Fednav International Limited Canada, he is recognised as expert in ice navigation and has published the text book "Ice Navigation, Managing Cold Climate Risks." He has also published a number or articles related to ice navigation, Arctic Routes and Project Cargo handling.
Binoy specialized in Maritime Law when studying for his LLM at Southampton University. He is an Associate Fellow of the Nautical Institute and a member of the Maritime Law Association of Singapore. He also sits on the technical committee of the Singapore Shipping Association.
Binoy has experience in handling all types of marine casualty including collisions, groundings, salvage, navigation, risks management and surveys. He has substantial knowledge and direct experience in relation to most ship types, in particular, dry bulk carrier, takers, gas carriers and passenger ships.
Binoy has deep specialist knowledge of the Indian market and a long track record of working on India related matters. He has developed extensive professional contacts there and is well-known by all the major Indian shipping law firms and Club correspondents which bring considerable added value for clients. His recent involvement in shipping matters in India includes a major collision/pollution incident in Chennai (widely-publicised in local and international media), port damage claims, cargo related disputes and disputes arising under ship Management Agreement.
