Kim's practice focuses on data privacy, cybersecurity, digital health, and transactional matters. She advises corporate and private equity, life sciences and health care, retail, media and entertainment, and technology clients on privacy compliance, research and big data initiatives, complex transactions, government investigations, and cybersecurity incident planning and response.
Kim has extensive experience counseling companies on data privacy and security issues relevant to digital transformation and innovation, advertising and marketing, data monetization, mobile apps and connected devices, health information technology, research collaborations, artificial intelligence, blockchain, and telehealth. She advises clients on federal, state, and international privacy and information security laws (including the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the New York SHIELD Act, the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), and the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA)). Kim frequently assists companies with privacy and security due diligence and negotiations for M&A deals, with a particular emphasis on data-driven transactions.
Having started her career as a health care and life sciences lawyer, Kim has a unique understanding of privacy and security issues impacting companies in the space, including digital health and other technology companies that are expanding into health care. She spent a year seconded in the Global Privacy Office of a global pharmaceutical company, where she advised the privacy and brand teams on various legal matters, including vendor and data sharing agreements, marketing and clinical research initiatives, patient assistance programs, and internal policies and procedures.
Kim is a Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/US) through the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP) and is a leading lawyer on our HIPAA and Health Privacy & Security and Digital Health teams. Kim also chairs the Mental Health Taskforce of LEADRS (Looking For Excellence And Advancement of Persons with Disabilities at Reed Smith), a business inclusion group that is part of Reed Smith’s diversity initiative.
