Chalyn is an associate in the Labor & Employment group in the Pittsburgh office. Chalyn’s practice extends across the litigation and transactional aspects of employment law.
On the litigation side, Chalyn defends employers and executives in a wide variety of employment-related matters arising under federal and state law. This experience includes representation of employers during agency investigations and lawsuits alleging violations of Title VII, the ADA, the ADEA, the FLSA, and related state laws. Chalyn has a special interest in helping clients overcome the challenges presented by use of independent contractors and other aspects of today’s so-called gig economy. Her litigation experience includes defending clients in contractor misclassification claims. In addition to employment-related litigation practice, Chalyn has litigated breach of commercial contract and unfair competition claims. Chalyn is experienced in all stages of litigation, including initial investigation, pleadings and motion practice, discovery, trial, appeal, and settlement.
On the transactional side, Chalyn advises clients on a variety of legal issues related to employment law. Specifically, Chalyn has significant experience in counseling employers on the prevention of sexual harassment claims in the “Me Too” era. In the event of an internal claim of harassment or assault, Chalyn is skilled with handling the internal investigation. Chalyn has developed an approach for interviewing witnesses about highly sensitive and personal matters with tact and the utmost care, resulting in a strong record on which to frame recommendations for remedial measures. Chalyn also advises companies about employment risks during merger and acquisition transactions.
