Matt is an associate in Reed Smith’s State Tax Group. His practice focuses on the resolution of state and local tax controversies through negotiation and litigation. Matt has extensive experience in the areas of California property tax and real estate transfer tax. He has represented clients from many different industries, including residential leasing, commercial office leasing, hotel, solar power production, and professional sports stadiums.
Matt has advised on and litigated property tax and real estate transfer tax matters for a variety of high-profile properties in San Francisco, Los Angeles County, Santa Clara County, San Mateo County, and Alameda County, including the San Francisco Giants’ Oracle Park. He has also represented several clients on property tax matters relating to solar power facilities.
Matt has prosecuted tax appeals before the California courts, taxing authorities, and county assessment appeals boards. He has also represented clients in matters involving California state income tax and sales and use tax.
Matt received his J.D. from UCLA School of Law and earned his B.A. from UCLA, graduating summa cum laude with degrees in communication studies and political science.
