Emma is an associate in Reed Smith’s Intellectual Property Group. She has experience with a range of technologies, including patents involving the distribution and customization of computer applications as well as patents utilizing her Biochemistry background. In addition to intellectual property matters, Emma has experience litigating cases involving products liability, unfair competition, breach of contract, and tort claims.
While at the firm, Emma has practiced in federal and state courts. She has managed various aspects of pretrial practice, with an emphasis on case development, drafting pleadings, discovery requests and responses, researching and drafting dispositive motions, and third party discovery. Emma also has worked closely with experts, third parties, and joint defense groups.
Before joining Reed Smith, Emma was a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Zachary J. Hawthorn of the Eastern District of Texas. As a law clerk, she gained invaluable experience researching and drafting orders and opinions involving constitutional and federal law violations, including claims under the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family and Medical Leave Act, Americans with Disabilities Act, and Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, as well as various state law claims. She also participated in Markman hearing and briefings.
In 2018, Emma was inducted into the National Order of the Scribes. She also continues to remain involved at her alma mater where she is an adjunct professor and teaches moot court.
