This year marks the fourth time for Ryan, and the seventh time for Box, to have been named. INvolve’s annual Heroes Executives Role Models List recognizes and celebrates established business leaders who are breaking down barriers at work and inspiring a new generation of diverse talent.
New York-based partner Natsayi Mawere has also been named to INvolve’s Heroes Future Role Models List. Mawere was also named on the Heroes Future Role Models List last year. The Heroes Future Role Models List recognizes and celebrates up and coming diversity champions who are poised to have an impact on their organizations and professions.
Casey Ryan
Ryan was appointed the global managing partner at Reed Smith in March 2023, becoming the first woman to hold the firm’s highest leadership position and one of very few women leading Am Law 50 firms. She has long been heavily involved in the firm's Diversity, Equity & Inclusion program, its Women's Initiative Network, and has led on the formation of a wide range of innovative recruitment and retention programs to help increase the diversity of both lawyers and staff. Ryan is also a member of the 30% Club, a business-led, global campaign to boost female representation on corporate boards and at C-Suite levels in the world’s largest companies. In addition, she is a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Well-Being in Law (IWIL), whose mission is to transform the legal profession's approach to well-being.
Tamara Box
London-based finance partner and former EME managing partner Box is a passionate advocate for the women at Reed Smith and for gender balance generally. She is a non-executive director on the Boards of Interpath Advisory and Hanover Investors, a Trustee of Chartered Management Institute and Chair CMI Women, a trustee of gynaecological cancer charity Eve Appeal, an Advisory Board member of charity Theirworld, an Advisory Board member of LSE’s The Inclusion Initiative and a founding member of the Steering Committee of 30% Club. Box has twice been named a Financial News “50 Most influential Lawyers” (2022, 2023) and was Law Firm Leader of the Year – Large Law Firm at Women and Diversity in Law Awards, 2023.
Natsayi Mawere
New York-based financial services litigation partner Mawere litigates complex commercial matters, including defending national putative class actions, handing various complex litigation matters ranging from fee disputes to trademark disputes to violations of federal and state consumer protection statutes, and providing risk management counseling to clients in the garnishments and setoffs space. She is also committed to issues of diversity in the legal industry and has leadership roles on Reed Smith’s Women’s Initiative Network and Diversity, Equity & Inclusion committees in New York. She also serves as a member of the Junior Board of the Coalition for the Homeless, the nation’s oldest advocacy and direct service organization helping homeless men, women, and children in New York, and a member of Advisory Board of First Step, a job training program within the Coalition for the Homeless that serves homeless and low-income women in New York.
