Azhar is Kazakh qualified lawyer and is working as a senior consultant in the firm’s Global Commercial Disputes Group. She also consults members of EME Corporate Group on subsoil use transactions and operation regulatory requirements. Azhar is based in London and acts as a Kazakhstan counsel on any corporate deal and litigation matters.
Azhar has a wide experience in advising on major oil/gas, mining and construction projects in Kazakhstan. Azhar has a broad range of international corporate experience and advises on a wide range of corporate and finance transactions including cross-border mergers and acquisitions, private equity and capital markets with particular expertise in international public M&A and IPOs for Kazakhs companies in London.
Among her considerable experience, Azhar has consulted Kazakh authorities and companies in respect of implementation the Kyoto Protocol’s requirement in Kazakhstan for the energy sector. She was a member of the Kazakh Government delegation in UNFCCC negotiation rounds in Copenhagen and Cancun in 2009-2010.
From 1991 to 2001 Azhar served in various positions in the Kazakh Government, most recently as Vice Minister of the Ministry of Justice with responsibility for the country’s legal reform project and as Vice Minister of Transport & Communication with overall responsibility for road, water and aviation transportations in Kazakhstan.
