Julia is an associate in Reed Smith’s Life Sciences Health Industry Group and an affiliate of the Complex Litigation Group's Pharmaceutical & Medical Device Team, resident in the firm’s Philadelphia office. Her practice is split between litigation and regulatory matters for life sciences clients.
Julia’s litigation practice focuses primarily on product liability litigation, with particular emphasis on the defense of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers. Julia also has substantial experience in complex commercial matters, advising clients in the life sciences industry who have been faced with commercial and contractual litigation. Julia has engaged in all phases of pre-trial practice, including drafting pleadings, coordinating and responding to discovery, as well as preparing for and taking depositions. Julia also regularly engages in a busy motions practice.
Additionally, Julia has substantial trial experience in state and federal courts, including second-chair experience in Pennsylvania state court, where Julia successfully defended a pro bono client in a premises liability jury trial. Most recently, Julia helped defend a life sciences client in a trademark infringement trial in the District of New Jersey, which resulted in a defense jury verdict for the client.
Julia’s regulatory practice specializes in providing legal and strategic advice regarding advertising and promotion. Most recently, Julia was seconded to a life sciences client where she provided on a full-time basis ad-hoc legal support to several commercial brands across different franchises and sat on promotional and non-promotional review committees.
Julia also has experience advising life sciences clients on matters such as contracting with health care providers, the federal Anti-Kickback Statute, compliance program development, transparency laws, savings card programs, advocacy and disease-state initiatives, social media campaigns, advisory boards, speaker programs and dissemination of off-label reprints. Clients greatly appreciate Julia’s added value from both a legal and business perspective.
