Jody Wood is a partner in the Transportation Industry Group, focusing on commercial litigation and international arbitration. His practice encompasses contentious matters in the shipping and aviation sectors, in addition to which he works alongside the asset finance teams on enforcement and workouts for the firm’s lending clients.
Jody’s ‘dry’ shipping litigation practice includes MOA, charterparty, bill of lading, and sale of goods matters in which he acts for owners, charterers, insurers, and traders. On the aviation side, Jody acts for lenders and lessors, and recent instructions include foreclosures against aircraft in various jurisdictions; repossessions of detained aircraft; leasing disputes (airframes and engines); and maintenance, repair, and overhaul facility disputes.
Jody worked in Singapore between 2008 and 2017, and he was a founding member of Reed Smith’s Singapore office, which opened in 2012. He regularly receives instructions to handle international commercial arbitrations. He is familiar with arbitral references seated in Asia and London and was appointed a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb) in 2017.
Outside work, Jody’s family keeps him busy, and he enjoys running, cycling and skiing.
