This award will recognize an individual who has made an outstanding lifetime contribution towards fostering systemic change by destigmatizing mental health, strengthening resiliency and creating a synergic approach to work and life in the legal profession.

Reed Smith has been among the legal industry’s leaders in supporting wellness. In 2018, the firm joined more than a dozen firms in signing the American Bar Association’s well-being pledge to address lawyer mental health issues. In 2019, the Reed Smith’s concern for the mental and physical well-being of its people prompted the launch of Wellness Works, a firmwide program to promote, support and sustain the well-being of its lawyers, staff and other employees worldwide.

“We are proud to join IWIL in honoring those individuals who are leading positive and meaningful change through their commitment to prioritizing mental health and wellness in the profession,” said Casey Ryan, Reed Smith’s Global Head of Legal Personnel.

Launched by the National Task Force on Lawyer Well-Being in April 2021, the IWIL advocates for systemic change in the legal profession to address a growing concern about mental health, substance use and addiction, and stress affecting lawyers. Its advocacy is derived from the belief that well-being is a core component of personal and professional success.

“Reed Smith is at the forefront of creating strategies for addressing and enhancing wellness, and we are proud to recognize the firm with our Award for Excellence,” said Bree Buchanan, president of the Institute for Well-Being In Law.
