The Pitch is an advanced role-playing course designed to give women lawyers valuable business development experience, arming them with the tools necessary to develop business and succeed in their law firms. Women lawyers selected for The Pitch will participate in exercises designed to reveal best practices to use when preparing and giving a formal pitch to prospective clients.
The program’s events include “On the Road to the Pitch,” which will feature panelists from the in-house legal departments of Wal-Mart, Mary Kay, Kimberly Clarke, Dollar General, and others. Panelists will discuss:
- Preparation and presentation of written work product, such as RFPs and informal email pitches;
- Social pitching, including lunch requests and invitations to networking events; and
- Branding oneself, for example, by writing articles, putting on CLEs, taking bar leadership posts.
Participants in The Pitch will also practice their elevator speech, complete a mock pitch and navigate a professional happy hour, all with real-time feedback from in-house counsel.
