Jarrad litigates and arbitrates complex commercial matters, including investigating potential claims and developing case strategy; counseling clients regarding litigation strategy; representing clients at mediation; overseeing and participating in discovery, including taking and defending depositions; drafting dispositive motions; selecting and preparing corporate witnesses and experts; and leading arbitration and trial preparation. Jarrad currently serves as the pro bono coordinator for Reed Smith’s Los Angeles office.
Jarrad has represented local and international clients in a broad range of matters such as contract and tort claims, as well as actions brought under the False Claims Act; the Employee Retirement Income Security Act of 1974; the Knox-Keene Health Care Service Plan Act of 1975; the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act; the Cartwright Act (California Business and Professions Code sections 16720–16727); and the California Unfair Competition Law (California Business and Professions Code sections 17200–17210). He has experience representing plaintiffs, defendants, subpoenaed non-parties, and appellate parties.
Jarrad’s practice also focuses on litigating and arbitrating medical treatment and health plan coverage issues with Reed Smith’s managed care team. He has conducted internal investigations, counseled clients in and litigated a variety of complex individual and class action managed-care matters including claims related to medical necessity and contractual disputes over the interpretation of payment provisions. Additionally, Jarrad is a member of Reed Smith’s telehealth task force, which identifies litigation risks related to telemedicine, and he counsels clients on best practices to manage those risks.
Prior to joining Reed Smith, Jarrad was an associate with a prominent litigation boutique firm in Los Angeles where he worked on complex commercial and white-collar matters before state and federal trial and appellate courts. Before pursuing his law degree, Jarrad taught middle school and high school chemistry as a Peace Corps volunteer in West Africa.
