Gautam specialises in international commercial arbitration and litigation, especially in the fields of energy, projects, and infrastructure, banking and financial services, and corporate and commercial law disputes. He has been a partner in the firm since 2000 and is the former Managing Partner of Reed Smith’s Singapore office. He also jointly heads the firm's cross-departmental India Group.
Gautam has extensive experience of acting in international arbitrations under the rules of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), UNCITRAL, the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA), the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC), the International Centre for Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the Arbitration Institute of the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce (SCC), the Swiss Chambers of Commerce, other arbitration bodies, and in ad hoc arbitrations. He has also conducted litigations before the English courts, as well as cases involving the courts of many other jurisdictions. He is named as a highly recommended and leading litigation and arbitration practitioner in the independent legal directories Legal 500, Chambers & Partners, Chambers Global, Chambers Asia, Legal Experts, Euromoney’s Guide to the World’s Leading Experts in Commercial Arbitration, Super Lawyers, and Asia-Pacific Legal 500. He was previously a visiting law lecturer at the University of Westminster.
