Jake focuses on defending employers in a wide range of employment litigation matters, including claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wage and hour violations, leaves of absence, misappropriation of trade secrets, and other tort and contract disputes arising out of the employment relationship.
Before joining Reed Smith, Jake served as an Attorney for the New York State Department of Labor. In that capacity, he defended numerous orders issued by the Commissioner of Labor before the Industrial Board of Appeals regarding a multitude of wage and hour violations, including unpaid wages, unpaid minimum wage/overtime, unpaid wage supplements such as vacation and sick pay, and tip appropriations. This experience has given Jake unique insight when advising clients on wage and hour compliance, as well as government audits and investigations.
Jake assists clients on a variety of other workplace issues, including handbook/policy development and compliance, separation agreements, discipline and discharge decisions, collective bargaining agreements, and arbitrations. He also assists managers and Human Resources professionals in preparing training materials and presentations.
