Matthew is a member of Reed Smith’s Litigation Insurance Recovery Group. Matthew represents corporate policyholders in a wide variety of disputes under all types of insurance policies, including Directors & Officers Liability Insurance, Cyber Liability Insurance, Commercial General Liability Insurance, First Party Property Insurance, and Business Interruption Insurance. Matthew has represented clients in high stakes litigation in state and federal courts throughout the country as well as in arbitration, and provided advice to policyholders with respect to the presentation of claims, the negotiation of settlements (including alternative dispute resolution), and loss recovery strategies. Matthew also has assisted clients in their procurement of insurance, including the drafting and negotiation of policy language and the review and analysis of insurance policy forms.

Over the past few years, Matthew has developed experience representing financial institutions in all types of matters stemming from the recent financial crisis. He has worked on a number of high value matters pursuing Mortgage Insurance coverage for defaulted mortgage loans. Matthew also has worked on complex non-insurance matters relating to residential mortgage-backed securities and loan-repurchase litigations and settlements.

Matthew has published numerous articles in national journals and periodicals and has given presentations on various insurance coverage topics. Matthew also currently serves as co-leader of Reed Smith’s Insurance Recovery Group’s Financial Loss Practice Area, focusing on Commercial Crime and Fidelity Bond Insurance and Mortgage Insurance.

Matthew also maintains an active pro bono practice. He volunteers with Philadelphia VIP, and is a member of Reed Smith’s Name Change Project, which provides free legal name change services to transgender clients.
