Miriam originally joined Reed Smith in 2006 and practiced in the firm’s Labor and Employment Group in Philadelphia until 2013. Miriam rejoined the firm’s Labor and Employment Group in 2016, working out of both the Philadelphia and New York offices.
Miriam has broad litigation experience before administrative agencies, state courts and federal courts at the trial and appellate levels. She litigates matters that span the gamut of issues that arise between employers and employees, including claims alleging: discrimination and retaliation under federal, state and local laws; wage-and-hour law violations; leave law violations; breach of restrictive covenants and unfair competition laws; whistleblower retaliation; wrongful discharge; and breach of contract. Additionally, Miriam works on matters involving fair housing and public accommodation laws, directors and officers liability, and traditional labor matters on behalf of private employers under the National Labor Relations Act.
Informed by her experience litigating issues after disputes have already arisen, Miriam provides prospective human resources counseling, training and reference materials to clients on best practices, including personnel policies and performance management, accommodations and access issues, workplace investigations, hiring practices and reductions in force, and labor law compliance.
Miriam also volunteers a significant portion of her practice to various matters through the firm’s pro bono initiative. In addition to working on specific matters with Lambda Legal, Miriam serves on the Philadelphia and New York Leadership Councils for the organization. Other representational pro bono matters have included providing human resources counseling for both national and regional non-profit organizations that serve underrepresented communities.
