Susan is a senior associate in the Life Sciences Health Industry Group, practicing in the area of health care regulatory law. She routinely works with a variety of health industry clients, including post-acute providers, hospitals, health systems, as well as other health care providers, suppliers and manufacturers, and health care trade associations. Her practice includes a broad range of complex regulatory, corporate, and contractual matters. Susan has a deep knowledge of the Affordable Care Act and its implementing regulations, the fraud and abuse laws regulating the health care industry and the laws and regulations governing Medicare and Medicaid. She also counsels private equity and other investors regarding health care regulatory issues that arise during transactions, including conducting due diligence and advising on change of ownership (CHOW) issues.
Susan has a particular interest in and experience with federal and state fraud and abuse laws, the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, “alternative payment models” currently being tested by the Medicare and Medicaid programs, and the ever-evolving legal and regulatory framework impacting the health care industry. She regularly counsels clients and gives presentations regarding the same, including investigating and submitting disclosures to the government reporting violations of the federal Stark Law, drafting and reviewing agreements between providers participating in alternative payment models and providing guidance regarding compliance and business considerations impacting providers entering into bundled payment arrangements.
Susan lives in Logan Circle in Washington, D.C. She enjoys running half-marathons, swimming and biking along the Mount Vernon Trail. Susan also serves as the Chair of the Washington, D.C. office’s Community Service Committee.
