On June 26, 2003, the Federal Communications Commission ("FCC" or "Commission") approved amendments to its telemarketing rules that complement the Federal Trade Commission’s ("FTC") recent efforts to establish a National "Do-Not-Call" registry. The new registry became operative on June 27, 2003 and permits consumers to register their home and mobile phone numbers on a nationwide list of telephone numbers that cannot be called by most telemarketers. The telemarketing rules do not apply to calls made to business telephone numbers.
