As a senior staff attorney, Megan manages portfolio litigation matters for a major financial institution throughout the United States, including consumer claims arising from mortgage foreclosure, auto loans, trust matters and retail banking. She is experienced with such claims as wrongful foreclosure and violations of federal financial statutes, as well as related issues such as loan modification and tender. She is also familiar with state consumer protection laws in frequently-targeted jurisdictions such as California, where she is admitted to practice and frequently appears.
Before joining Reed Smith, Megan served for nearly 10 years as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania in Pittsburgh. As an AUSA, she independently managed a large and varied caseload of civil actions involving the United States and/or its agencies and officers, which were pending in federal district court and bankruptcy court. Her diverse practice included employment discrimination, medical malpractice, bankruptcy, torts, and civil rights cases. Her responsibilities included drafting all pleadings and procedural and substantive motions and briefs, as well as participating in discovery practice and trial preparation, including conducting and defending depositions and presenting at court conferences, argument, and mediations.
Prior to her service at the U.S. Attorney's office, Megan was an associate at Jones Day in Pittsburgh for 6 years, where she assisted in developing case strategies in complex and multi-party commercial and products liability cases in state and federal courts. At Jones Day, she was responsible for handling daily activities in cases including conducting all aspects of discovery and primary responsibility for drafting and researching procedural and dispositive motions.
